Fire District 5 is the largest fire department in Grays Harbor County, providing a full range of emergency medical, fire, rescue, and public education service to approximatley 12,000 residents over a 200 sq mile radius.
A total of 55 members staff and or respond out of five stations. Seven career members are staffed at station 54, one Chief, three Captain/Paramedics, and three Firefighter/Paramedics. In addition there are 47 Volunteer members responding from Stations 51, 52, 53 and 54.
The disrtict residents receive emergency medical care and fire suppression services from eight firefighgters trained and certified as Paramedics, twenty volunteer firefighters trained and certified as Emergency Medical Technicians, and the remaining 27 volunteer firefighters are trained and certified as First Responders or Advanced First Aid.
Firefighters trained in fire suppression, EMS, hazardous material response and technical rescue are on duty daily to protect and serve it public with pride, compassion, and commitment. Fire District 5 also has staff members assigned to organize and deliver fire prevention and public education programs.
Fire District 5 owns and operates five Engines, four water Tenders, three advanced life support Ambulances, one Aid Unit, one wildland Engine, one Rescue Unit, two staff cars, and a fire prevention education trailer. The geographical area served by Fire district 5 is varied with residential, urban and manufacturing developments; major highways; and wooded areas. In recent years the area has experienced a a steady growth in new development and in population which in turn has resulted in an increased demand for fire district services.
In response to the challenges of this growth, as well as changes in expectations, regulations and health -- Fire District 5 is seeking new and better ways to go about the business of serving the public. These include forging mutually beneficial partnerships, exploring new technology and embracing change as a basis for continuous improvement. The Fire District will explore new ways to partner with neighboring jurisdictions and other agencies in areas such as training, purchasing, and community education in an effort to enhance Fire and Emergency Medical Services to the residents and at the same time provide them with future cost avoidance.
